About Dnipro

Fifty years ago a man had a dream to enrich the Edmonton community with song in a variety of forms.

That man, Roman Soltykewych, along with a group of devotees, whose primary concern was the fostering, promotion, and perpetuation of the finest elements of Ukrainian Choral music organized the Dnipro Male Chorus, which expanded in 1971 to become a mixed choir. In 1974, with the addition of an orchestra and dance corps, the mixed choir became an Ensemble.

The current generation of the Ukrainian Dnipro Ensemble of Edmonton continues this work of preserving the rich Ukrainian musical culture within the parameters of the Canadian multicultural identity.

In 2003, the ensemble celebrated its 50th Anniversary.
